All is set for the 2016 Maariborwu Festival of the Kotokolis – Tem.
The Chairman of the National Planning Committee of the 2016 Maariborwu Festival, Mr. Saeed Ali Yakubu, has indicated that the Festival which is slated for November 8 – 10, 2016, would come off at Kue-Kotokoli, the traditional home of Kotokolis in the Nkwanta – South District of the Volta Region.
Speaking to a cross section of the Kotokoli-Tem Chiefs and Queen Mothers drawn from 30 Districts in the Ashanti region, in Kumasi, Mr. Saeed Yakubu, said the aim of the festival is to bring Kotokoli-Tem decent together, to foster life and strong cohesion, vis-à-vis their cultural value.
The National Planning Committee Chairman, disclosed that about 1,500 participants are expected to attend.
He said, this year’s festival is to echo the need for peaceful co-existence and also educate the children their cultural values and also learn the language, as well as their way of dressing.
“We want to in concrete into our people of our ethnic belief, our way of life which our fore fathers believe in certain principals which has been diluted today,” Saeed added.
Saeed Yakubu, said the festival will commence with the recitation of the Holy Quran on Friday November 9, 2016, after Friday Muslim Prayers, to pray for peaceful 2016 December 7, General elections.
He said, the main festival comes off on November 10, 2016, where the Chief of Kue – Kotokoli, who is also the Paramount chief of Kotokoli-Tem, Wuro Alhaji Dauda Chedre Brenan II, will address the gathering.
He announced that top Government officials, chiefs from the Volta Region, Ministers, District Chief Executives (DCEs), Political party leaders, are expected to grace the occasion.
He said the region is noted for multi Lingual and ethnic groups with more than thirty four (34) spoken languages.
He mentioned Ewes, Akebus, Adeles, Kotokolis, Guans, Akans, Buems, Konkombas, are expected to demonstrate their culture at the festival, for the youth and people present to see.
