As part of the measures to boost the confidence of the final year candidates for the 2014/2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Korley Klottey Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, the Member of Parliament (MP) in collaboration with Sub-Metro office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has organized free vacation classes for the students to prepare them for the examination in the Constituency.
The beneficiary students numbering about 1, 140 were from the Presby cluster of schools, Boundary Road cluster of schools and the Farisco cluster of Schools.
The special vacation classes for the students were estimated at the cost of seven thousand and two hundred Cedis.
Speaking to the students after a tour of the beneficiary schools Nii Armah Ashietey, the MP for the area urged the students to use their time judiciously and not waste it on social media platforms.
He said this is not the time for you to be spending time on Facebook and Twitter at the expense of your studies.
He said the basis for organizing the vacation classes for the students was to make sure the students in his Constituency prepare adequately for their BECE.
He noted that education is collective responsibility between parents, teachers, students as well as other stakeholders and not for teachers alone.
He however, charged the students to study hard and take full advantage of the vacation classes.
I can organize vacation classes for you but i can force you but i can force you to learn Mr Ashietey said.
The Officer in-Charge of the Klottey Korley Sub-Metro Ghana Education Service (GES),Madam Patience Adom said the vacation classes that the MP had been organizing had improve the performance of students undertaking the examination over the years.
She noted that the students often neglect their books during vacations so the classes kept them glued to their books.
