The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Region,Mr Kennedy Agyepong has been hauled before the PrivilegesCommittee of Parliament .
This follows a complaint lodged by Minority Chief Whip, Muhammad Muntaka Mubarakon the floor of the House yesterday.
Citing Standing Order 53 (1) –(L),the Minority Chief Whip said the utterances of Assin Central MP is embarrassing the Honorable House and is liable for Contempt of the House.
Article 112 of the Constitution he further explained states among others that a Member of Parliament whose utterances brings the dignity of Parliament shall commit a Contempt of Parliament.
This call by the Minority Chief Whip who is also the Member of Parliament for Asawasecomes on the heals of a similar call by the Minority a fortnight ago for criminal liability of the Assin Central MP.
His utterances in respect of the showing of the Ahmed Soule Husein photo and the inciting of Public to harm the undercover Journalist, he noted is an affront to the dignity of Parliament .
Mr Muntaka, who has had the cause to similarly lodge a complaint of Contempt of Parliament against the Assin Central MP over his unpalatable remarks about Parliament and its Leader at the last Meeting of Parliament also made reference to the Oath of Office which is taken by Members of Parliament when they are assuming office.
The oath of office, he explained tasks every MP to uphold the laws of the country but the conduct of Mr Kennedy Agyepong has brought the image of the Parliament and its laws into disrepute.
He further said the Code of Conduct which was instituted by the August House recently entreats the MPs to conduct themselves devoid of utterances that are not fit for an MP.
Contributing to the complaint by MrMuntaka Mubarak, the Majority Leader, MrOseiKyei-Mensah Bonsu said the complaint calling for Contempt of Parliament against the MP for Assin Central MP cannot be debated on the Floor and should thus be referred to the Privileges Committee.
The Speaker of Parliamet,Rt Hon Mike Oquaye referred the issue to the Privileges Committee accordingly.
