& Reveals New Party Name
Self-acclaimed financier of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has called the bluff of the National Executives of the party on their invitation to him to appear before its Judicial Committee to answer charges of misconduct.
Aside refusing to appear before the party’s committee to explain his comments that the current National Executives are ‘thieves’ and so must be voted out of power, the loud-mouthed legislator has threatened to resign from the largest opposition party, should it dare to give him a sack.
“The current National Executives are incompetent and that I will not attend to any judicial committee invitations by them and I promise to resign from Parliament if they try to sack me from the party. I will just write a letter to the Speaker and resign”, he served notice.
Mr Agyapong said this on Monday night when he contributed to Adom FM/Asempa FM’s socio-political talk show programme “Burning Issues” hosted by Afia Pokua.
The MP’s pronouncement comes on the heels of his December accusation of party chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and the rest of the leadership that they did not deserve to retain their positions as the party gears up to elect new leaders, because they have soiled their hands by ‘stealing motorbikes,’ meant for the 2012 election campaign.
Speaking amongst others on the show, the MP who recently returned after holidying abroad said that he still stands by his accusations, adding that he will ensure that the Executives are voted out, as he has set aside “$20 million to tour the whole of the country to campaign against all the current National Executives”.
In the event that the Executives most especially Mr. Lamptey retains his position after the March 1 national election of the party, he promise that he will break away from the party and form his own party.
Already, many party fanatics and supporters are gnashing their teeth as to how they allowed Mr. Agyapong, whom they describe as a “monster” to insult members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the late President Prof. John Atta Mills, who he tagged as “number one thief” insulted everybody and now turn round and “eat” them up.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Neat FM yesterday, Mr. Agyapong, has promised to commit $5million to re-organize and re-build the NPP, should the party vote against the current executives and move on to bring any presidential candidate, be it Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo or any other as flagbearer.
“I challenge them I say; I will give them $5M straight, either Nana or Alan. I have said it on your radio station, either Nana or Alan I swear to God, I will give any candidate who comes if these executives don’t show their faces. I have taken the money for the work for the party…..
“I will give them and you will see that I will sponsor every delegate conference until 2016, I challenge them. If I’m not able to give five million dollars for NPP as seed money, I should be hit by a vehicle, by my own vehicle, I’m telling you”, Hon. Agyapong assured.
According to the out-spoken politician, the leadership of the party today is unable to raise funds for the Annual Delegates’ Conference which is a requirement in the NPP’s Constitution, because of their dishonesty and dented credibility. He regretted that a formidable party like the NPP could not raise funds to organize its programmes.
If we don’t take care when we bring Jesus Christ as flag bearer, because of dishonest leadership, we will lose. We need to get all these dishonest leaders out and bring fresh people and when they are coming they know that in four years they are going to account to the people of this party
“It is interesting and it is disgusting how they have disgraced NPP. NPP, a party loved by every Ghanaian, if you go and bring such executives and they tell us this, it is sad. “As I said before, if they have not lost credibility, and we trust that they are executives and they believe that they are honest, they could have come to us [MPs] and me, with a snap of my finger, I will have allowed one bank to give them GH¢1M one touch.
“One million well dodge, I will raise a cheque if we have credible Executives, I will raise one and you will see if my cheque will bounce” he said.
He noted that sometimes, he is tempted not to go ahead with his intention to form the new party, which he has christened Peoples Liberation Party (PLP), because of the personalities of Nana Addo, Alan Kyeremanten and ex-president, John Agyekum Kufuor, but indicated that, he could not promise that he won’t form the party, because aside one TB Damba, who is a member of the executives, if any of the executives is re-elected, he will form the PLP to challenge the NPP.
But for President Kufour, Alan and Nana Addo, as I am speaking to you, I would have resigned and formed a new party to cause havoc in the NPP for Jake and his Brian to see.
But when I look at all these people how they have suffered ….when I do that is bad, but I cannot promise you because I have thought about my party and the name is Peoples Liberation Party (PLP), to liberate Ghanaians. If they make a mistake and elect one executive apart from T.B Damba, I will come out with a party, Peoples Liberation Party
He prophesized that if the party does not listen to him and re-elect the same executives to man the party’s activities, it will fail, even if it brings forward “Jesus Christ” as it flagbearer in 2016.
The MP, who claims his wife has told him he speaks in his sleep because of NPP, said if the old executives are given a boot; he is prepared to support the party in whatever way possible.
Even before the sun settles on the MP’s threat, the First Vice Chairman of the NPP, Fred Oware, has also thrown in a challenge to the Assin Central, MP to go ahead and form his own party if the NPP is too small for him.
Mr Oware said this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme yesterday rebutting Mr Agyapong’s threat to form a new party should the current executives be re-elected adding, it is about time the party stamp its authority and punish people, whose actions and inactions bring the name of the party into disrepute.
Fred Oware was reacting to the Assin Central MP’s threat to form a new political party should the current National Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey retain his position.
According to him, the NPP is bigger than any individual, therefore, no one can hold the party hostage, adding, “the spirit of the NPP is very strong, so if I decide to form my own party, even my house boy will not even vote for me”.
The aspiring National Chairman bemoaned how “hotheaded” people in the party make unsubstantiated allegations to injure the integrity and electoral fortunes of the party and are left to go scot-free.
“Money is not everything; it is people, who will vote for the party, but such misguided utterances can prevent people from joining the NPP”, Mr. Oware noted.
