The pupils of Kanda cluster of schools in the Greater Accra region, has been adjudged the winners of the Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) Foundation Reading Club Project, after stiff competition from the pupils of Burma Camp schools.
The pupils of Kanda, competed in the spelling process with students from Burma Camp, Osu cluster of schools and Ablekuma cluster of schools to emerge winners at the end of the competition.
Speaking at the grand finale of the MTN Joy Fm reading club, Miss Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Affairs Executive, said the MTN was passionate about transforming the lives of people through impactful social interventions through reading.
She said the project was an initiative established to provide interventions that encourage children between the ages of eight and fourteen to read.
She noted that the project was to encourage the art of reading among children.
She explained that research has shown a direct link between literacy, economic growth and improve health.
I would, therefore, like to take the opportunity to encourage all who are present to make reading a habit.
She explained that the project seeks to make reading as an educational activity and an enjoyable social programme.
