Over Busted Cocaine Trafficker’s Donation To NPP
Aide to ousted New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, has rubbished claims by Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong that busted drug trafficker and money launderer, David Anim, “officially” donated 100 motorbikes to the party for it 2012 campaign.
Bryan Acheampong, described in the NPP circles as “Chief of Staff” of Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, wants all concerned to note that though the owner of the Accra-based Le Baron Hotel, made the effort to entice the NPP with the gifts, the party officially refused.
The rejection, according to Mr. Acheampong followed some “confidential information” the party received about David Anim, who is currently in the jaws of narcotic drug law enforcers in the United Kingdom (UK) awaiting his fate.
According to Bryan Acheampong, “Le-baron Owner David Anim attempted to donate motorbikes to the NPP, but they were officially rejected by the Party, after the Party had received some confidential information”, he posted on his Facebook wall, last Friday. He, however, failed to give details of the “confidential information” the NPP got on the man.
The ex-NPP National Chairman’s aide, suggested that Kennedy Agyapong, lied in his claims that the motorbikes, were specifically donated to NPP to support the Nana Akufo-Addo for President Campaign in 2012.
Bryan Acheampong was emphatic; “I or any senior member of the Party cannot deny that these bikes in the end were donated to individuals within the Party for their respective campaigns. It should be on record that NPP did not OFFICIALLY receive and acknowledge receipt of any such motorbike/s and that must be made clear”.
Mr. Anim, has been described by the security agencies as the leader within the drug trafficking organisation responsible for coordinating the transportation of large quantities of cocaine and heroin around the world.
He is also alleged to have serious ties with major drug gangs in Europe, South America and the United States of America.
He was arrested with one Ebenezer Kofi Antwi Nkansah, a Ghanaian.
One other, Adjayi Akpo,a Nigerian is on the run.
The David Anim, Ebenezer Kofi Antwi Nkansah and Adjayi Akpo, are also wanted in America, where they have been indicted and charged in the Southern District Court of New York for the violation of United States Drug Enforcement laws.
Further investigations by “The Herald” pointed that Mr. Anim donated US2Million to the NPP, but Mr. Agyapong has denied that claim.
Mr. Acheampong, perhaps tired of his party occasionally being tagged as a cocaine group, following the arrest of MP for Nkoranza North said “As I stated in the Post, The Party must come out with Complete Denial because the party did not OFFICIALLY accept it.
Further interrogations from the likes of one Nhyira Addo, a radio presenter at Alive FM, brought Mr. Achampong back into the conversation to explain that “after the Party officially rejected the bikes I suspect he gave it out to his friends, who were contestants or their supporters.
On the issue of Motorbikes in my home I believe you are late as that rumor has long been dispelled and those photo shop images properly exposed”.
The young politician, who has been described by the NPP as “very disrespectful” because of the way and manner he engaged bigwigs of the party, who were probing a stealing charge slapped on him and Jake by Ken Agyapong, ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference in Tamale.
Ken Agyapong, admitted on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem hosted by Captain Smart that David Anim, who was busted at the Heathrow Airport by the Metropolitan Police in April, is his good friend, and donated one hundred motorbikes embossed with the inscription; “Patriots”.
The MP, in the heat of the party conference in the Northern Region, had series of confrontations with the likes of Mr. Acheampong, whom he accused of hording the motorbikes in his house in Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
The MP, who prides himself as the only Ghanaian politician, who speaks the truth, opened his mouth too wide sinking everybody including, Nana Akufo-Addo and his spokesman, Eugene Arhin, on whether he (Nana Addo) knows David Kojo Anim, owner of Le Baron Hotel in East Legon – Accra.
“You see, my party and my friend, it’s difficult. But I saw a publication that, he gave 2 million dollars. If the banks will speak the truth they will tell you what is happening to that hotel for him to give NPP 2million dollars. Is not true, it is not true”.
“He contributed, yes, he contributed 100 motor bikes. The patriot, the patriot I talked about and people were fighting me yes, that is true. But for him to give NPP 2million dollars, where is he going to get it from? China patriot motorbikes how much is it”, he said?
According to him, aside the popular 100 “patriot motorbikes”, which Mr. Anim donated to the campaign, he personally cautioned his party folks not to go ahead and do something, which he refused to mention in the last Wednesday interview.
The legislator, intimated that he criticized those party folks, who were burnt on engaging Mr. Anim for donations for the campaign to be wary, as going ahead to do that had the potential to bring disgrace to the party’s 2012 flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.
“You see now they have included all of us? You let me stop here, because he is my friend. Now they have seen that
Kennedy Agyapong speaks the truth. You see now Nana Addo who has no idea who he is has been dragged in the case. I criticized them in 2012 that this thing you are going to do, if you go ahead, you will disgrace Nana Addo”.
“I stopped them that, no, don’t take anything there. Knowing he was exposing some of the things that need not to be brought into the open shut himself up saying, “anyway am going too far so let me stop here”.
According to the electoral laws of Ghana, political parties are barred from collecting funds from drug dealers to support their activities, especially during the electioneering campaigns.
At least, it is clear in the interview that, Mr. Agyapong, who has severally been tagged by his political opponents as a cocaine dealer, did not take only the so called motorbikes, but knew that his friend, was busily doing drugs but went ahead to take gifts from him to manage the NPP.
“I will not deny that he is my friend, why will I deny if he is my friend??? Where God has placed me, I will be a fool to do drugs”.
“I say the day you will hear that I have been arrested for drugs; Ghanaians should jubilate, because I must be daft to do that. With where God has placed me as at now”?
“But that is the business the person has chosen to do. Me, Kennedy Agyapong, am I the person to go and stop him?? You understand I can’t stop him”.
“But I will never deny that I go there, I go there. Any time I want to rest before I go home, to beat the traffic, I go there. They have a nice pizza, I enjoy it.”
The MP intimated that periodically, he went to Mr. Anim, who has been described by the London Metropolitan Police as the leader of a global drug cartel, hotel to relax and knows several other people, who go there just as he does.
Regrettably, he said, he could not advice his friend not to do the illegal business, because he was an adult who had chosen to dabble in that business.
