From Samuel Mensah Torbizo , Kumasi-
The Chief of Pekyi No1 in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region, Nana Gyamfi Mensah Bonsu, has said that he would not engage in the act of using the well built persons commonly referred to as “Machomen” to harass the indigents of the town.
“ I would never hire the service of “Machommen” to do anything for me, this practice can start communal violence, hence I prefer using the approved channel to seek redress, instead of involving them to settle land disputes etc,” he stressed.
He denied the allegations by one Kwabena Boateng, who accused him of using “Machomen to harass others or that he is engaged in double sales of land in the area.
“Using either “Machomen or engaging in double sales of land are very detrimental to societal peace and development, therefore, I would never go these ways”, he stressed.
Speaking to THE HERALD, Nana Mensah Bonsu, noted that though he has good vision to ensure the rapid development of the town, Kwabena Boateng, has always been a thorn in his flesh as he (Kwabena Boateng) instituted several court actions against him.
“My focus is always destructed from achieving what I intend to for this town because of the number of court cases brought against me by Kwabena Boateng. Though the Supreme Court and Otumfour Osei Tutu ii, have all ruled in my favour ,this man is still not satisfied, so he has been trying to do everything he can to sway my focus from the plans I have for the people, this has been a major setback to attaining our set goals”, he said.
He appealed to the people of Pekyi No1 to put the past behind them and give peace and unity a chance, with this he hoped they could make inroads in their quest to transform the living conditions of the vulnerable in the society, especially their children’s education.
Copies of the ruling by the High and the Supreme Courts, which were secured by this paper indicated that Nana Mensah Bonsu was victorious in all the cases.
Nana Mensah Bonsu said, within two year after he ascended onto the throne, he had made giant strides in terms of offering his community the best social amenities.
According to him, by a means of prudent use of resources at his disposal ,he was able to build a complex Information Communication Technology (ICT) center, which is yet to be commissioned ,a three class-room block, 20 seater toilet facility and three bore holes, one of which has been mechanized to enhance continuous water supply to the indigents.
Nana Mensah Bonsu, explained that he has fashioned out development plans, which would be executed in stages to accelerate the growth of the town.
He said among his vision is to build a clinic to be equipped with modern medical items and also sink two additional bore holes within the next three years.
Nana Mensah Bonsu continued that his decision to put up the clinic was not geared towards providing health care services for his people only, but to serve as a first aid point for travelers commuting between Kumasi – Obuasi –Cape Coast and Takoradi, who are sometimes involve in accident, before they would be referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
According to the chief, very soon the road linking the community to the Obuasi main road would be tarred from his own income.
“We should not solely rely on the government to do everything for us, it is good for us to initiate something before seeking help from the government, because the demands by the citizens from the state are countless”, he said.
