I Don’t Countenance Corrupt Practices –Amartey Mensah Tells NDC

By Cecil Mensah

The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) of Ledzokuku -Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) in the Greater Accra Region Mr Daniel Amartey Mensah has told the rank and file of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) that he won’t countenance corrupt practices under his administration as Regional Chairman

Mr Akartey Mensah who is vying for the Greater Regional Chairmanship slot of the party to together with the incumbent Mr Joseph Arde Coker, Mr Steven Akwetey, Manly Spain and Jothan Tackie Commey made this comment in an interaction with The Herald when news about some corrupt practices during his administration as MCE took centre stage in the media.

The one time Constituency Chairman for the Nungua Electoral area said when he was the MCE caused the arrest of his father’s sister when she was found to have engaged in corrupt practices at the Assembly.

He said his auntie together with twenty four revenue officers were found to have embezzled revenue meant for the Assembly after a thorough investigation that revealed that their actions have been denying the Assembly the needed revenue for development.

After the investigations, his auntie and the others were handed over to the Kpeshie Divisional Police command the law to take its course.
If I were to be that corrupt and thought of the need of my family at the expense of public office, I would have let Madam Vida Amartey off the hook.

According to an internal audit emanating from the Assembly in the possession of The Herald appendix VII indicated that Madam Amartey embezzled over nineteen thousand Ghana Cedis only in two months at Nungua.

Mr Amartey was quick to add that he could have used his position as the leader of the Assembly to have the matter put under the carpet.
He said because of his diligence and the quest for the right thing to be done at the Assembly, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development adjudged the Assembly the best for prudently managing the revenue of the Assembly.

He told this reporter that when he was leaving the Assembly in September 2014, he left a whopping seventeen billion Cedis as against a debt of eight billion Cedis.

He said because some people in the leadership positions of the party have been awoken by his decision to contest for the position hence they are trying hard to throw mud at me when there is none.

He said elements in the opposition New Patriotic Part (NPP) have also taken cover since he announced his decision to contest the regional chairmanship slot.

He explained that during the last election when odds were against the party in Krowor and Ledzokuku Constituencies, the NDC under his leadership won both seats to the surprise of the doubting Thomas in the Constituency.
