Asante Kotoko legend Samuel Opoku Nti says that he remains in charge of the club until the club owner and Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says otherwise.
The club’s Board of Directors, rumored to be dissolved earlier in the week, met on Saturday and appointed business magnate Alhaji Abu Lamini as the club’s acting Chief Executive, but Opoku Nti told Kumasi-based Angel FM that he was not asked by the Asantehene to report to any Board.
“Otumfuo tasked myself, Charles Opoku and Didi Dramani to take charge of Asante Kotoko until he comes out with the official word. Nana never said anything about a Board I have to report to. He asked me to look after the club secretariat, Opoku to oversee financial matters and Dramani to take care of technical issues.”
When asked whether he has ever questioned the locus of the Board of Directors, Opoku Nti replied in the negative, noting that should anyone think that he is not in charge of the club, that would present a problem.
“The Board comes to do their meetings. I cannot go and ask them under whose authority they are acting. I am only focused on doing what Otumfuo asked me to do. But if anyone thinks that Otumfuo hasn’t given the job to me for now, then they have a problem.”
