To the ordinary mind, the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Dr. Wilfred K. Anim-Odame, was heavenly favoured to have been dismissed by the Akufo-Addo administration, but reinstated the following day.
A letter withdrawing his dismissal dated January 26, 2017 signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, drew suspicion, but many could not question President Akufo-Addo, because he is vested with an enormous power to appoint and sack at will.
However, investigation by The Herald, has established that there was a big drama and power play that went on between two bigwigs of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), forcing the seat of government; the Flagstaff House, to capitulate, withdrawing the dismissal letter and ordering Dr. Anim-Odame’s reinstatement the following day to the surprise of many.
Credible information picked up by The Herald, indicates that the two, former Water Resources Works and Housing Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang and Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, have been on each other’s throat arguing for and against Dr. Anim-Odame’s continues stay as Lands Commission boss after government changed.
While, Mr. Owusu-Agyeman’s relationship with the Executive Secretary, could be best described as father and son affair, Ken Agyepong, wants him removed from his portfolio, because he was appointed by the Mahama government, beside he is corrupt and had been behind some dirty land deals under the previous government.
Ken Agyapong, has insisted that Dr. Anim-Odame is an NDC sympathizer, who should not be entertained by the Akufo-Addo government.
To this end, Mr. Agyapong, is furious and has threatened on his Madina-based Oman FM that if Dr. Anim-Odame is not removed by President Akufo-Addo; he would raid the offices of Lands Commission with party thugs to forcibly oust him.
But Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, a former MP for New Juabeng North in the Eastern Region, who feels he has more claws than the Assin Central MP from the Central Region, was able to get his pal, President Akufo-Addo, on his side, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the dismissal letter hours after it was announced by the media.
Before this, Dr. Anim-Odame led by his godfather; Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, was said to have engaged the appointing authorities in a long and laborious meeting inside the Flagstaff House, where he told them he had also been a member of the NPP and not the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as claimed by Ken Agyapong.
Dr. Anim-Odame, went ahead to malign former President Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, accusing them of remote-controlling him in most of the actions he took during the tenure of the previous government.
Insiders told The Herald that, Dr. Anim-Odame, peddled a lot of untruths about the former First Family to save his job, saying he took some decisions, because he was ordered to do so.
His lies according to sources was backed by Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, who is reported to have convinced the government that, Dr. Anim-Odame was a true member of the NPP and so needed to be allowed to continue his post.
Dr. Anim-Odame, whose letter of dismissal was dated January 24, 2017 signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, was appointed by President Mahama.
He was very powerful to an extent of causing the removal of chairman of the Lands Commission, Nana Agyei Ampofo by President Mahama.
The prominent Nana Agyei Ampofo, a legal gem, was appointed by late President Atta Mills’ administration.
The removal of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission chair, Oko Niikoi Dzani by President Mahama, has also been attributed to the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission.
He was said to have told President Mahama a lot of things which engineered the sacking of Oko Niikoi Dzani.
The Lands Commission this paper is gathering, has become a business avenue, where people buy lands cheaply and sell at very expensive prices.
It is not clear, what deals both Hackman Owusu-Agyemang and his counterpart, Ken Agyapong, are seeking to benefit from at the Lands Commission with the sacking or retention of Dr. Anim-Odame.
But what is clear is that, the Executive Secretary, remains the only appointee of the previous government, who was sacked and reinstated the next day by the Flagstaff House.
More to come!
