A twenty-four year old man was killed by land guards while five others sustained gunshot wounds at Ayikai Dobro near Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality last Friday.
The deceased, Sulley Amartey, and others were erecting pillars on a plot of land when land guards opened fire on them.
The menace of the land guards is getting out of hand with the security agencies appearing very hapless. Recently a chief had his arm decapitated by machete-wielding land guards following a dispute of a plot of land.
What is even amazing is that the land guards in some instances exchange gunfire with police officers dispatched to maintain law and other.
Court orders are also flouted with impunity.
Lieutenant General (Rtd) Arnold Quainoo, onetime General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces, is a prominent victim of this menace with the latest being last Friday.
Bulldozers and gun-wielding thugs matched unto his plot of land at Nmai-Dzor near Ashaley Botwe in Accra, razing trees and other structures at sight in a blatant attempt to forcefully takeover the land he bought many years ago, with a Supreme Court judgement confirming his ownership.
The latest siege by the land guards acting on the instruction of the Okpelor Sowah Din Family at comes days after they family was confirmed by an Accra High Court not ventured into the land or risk serving a jail term of Contempt of Court.
In the Ayikai Dobro incident, the Managing Director of Salley Properties, Ibrahim Salley, the estate developer, who was supervising work at the site when the land guards attacked, told Joy News that after an initial confrontation between his workers and the land guards, the land guards later emerged from the bushes and opened fire on them.
Sulley Amartey, he said, was declared dead after he was rushed to Amasaman Government Hospital.
