Two Organizations, the Golden Star Resources (GSR) Ladies Club and DHL Global Forwarding, were able to raise an amount of GH¢22,500 to support the Ghanaian NGO, Breast Care International (BCI) to fight breast cancer in Ghana.
The country Manager of DHL, the main contributors to the donation, Mr. Paul Opoku, said as part of their social responsibility, shared the goal to raise breast cancer awareness not only for women and girls but also families, through awareness and education activities.
He said the DHL has also promised to partner with BCI for the Senior High School (SHS) breast cancer education and screening program.
The Founder and President of BCI, Dr. (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Office (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospitals in Accra and Kumasi, who received the cheque, on behalf of the NGO, urges families to seek good information, to dispel the myths that the breast cancer is a spiritual disease or a curse.
“Only proper education will remove fears about treatments and raise awareness that early detection is the best protection.
She thanked the two organizations for their support and assured the GSR Ladies Club and DHL that the funds will be used to directly support the outreach programmes undertaken by BCI, in the aim of continuing education about breast cancer, this according to her will encourage women to do regular breast examination.
