…With A Promise To Fete 1000,000 Widows This Year

The management of Green Fm, one of the radio stations which offer its listeners an unadulterated health related programmes last Monday November 2, 2013 kicked started its one year anniversary celebrations by distributing free fuel coupons to commercial drivers in the Tema metropolis of the Greater Accra Region.
As part of the week long anniversary programme, about one million widows would be feted by the management of the station, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
According to the managers of the station, the programme to fete the over one million widows from all parts of the country, will come off at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre on December 26, to climax the anniversary celebrations.
Speaking at the launch of the anniversary to mark the one year of the operations of the company in Community one, the General Manager, Mr Richard Da-Cosata Oppong said, the radio station started December last year, when politics has taken over all radio stations, characterized with insults as a results of the electioneering campaign.
Green Fm was introduced as an alternative to give Ghanaians a refreshing programming to make up for the loss on the airwaves, he averred.
“As the name suggest, our radio channel is devoted towards making the earth really green, by keeping the environment clean, save and ensure the total happiness of our target audience, “ he said
He said, this was done by spreading green knowledge and by providing absolute entertainment at all times.
He posited that the management wishes to use the radio station’s programming to address very sensitive health and entertainment issues by identifying and supporting the needy in the society.
He noted that for the past one year, the station has religiously been involved in a lot of social activities with the aim of adding value to radio programming.
As results of this, the station has been giving way on daily basis, free fuel coupons to commercial drivers to boost their operations in partnership Ghana Oil company limited (GOIL),as well as, tit bits on greening the environment.
“He explained that as results of this, the station partnered Okyehene of Akyemn Abuakwa, Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin II, in the planting of trees during last year’s world environmental day celebrations.
In an interaction with The Herald, Mr Ernest Wiafe Asante, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green FM said, the station was an existing radio station by name Peposo FM, in the Eastern Region which was rebranded to meet the current demands of listeners in both the Greater Accra Region and Eastern region.
He continued that even though the station has been operating from the Manfe-Akwapim area over the past years, management took advantage of the radio station’s capacity of being heard in Accra, to venture into the saturated Accra radio listenership market.
Mr Asante, who is also the owner of Ufresh Beverages Company limited said, the radio station for the twelve months after its rebranding in Accra, has been offering non political, but needy programmes to its wide listeners in the Tema municipality and Manfe-Akwapim and its environs.
