About two hundred youth in twenty Constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, have declared their support for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional chairmanship bid of Mr Stephen Akwetey.
According to them, Mr Akwetey, who is one of the leading contenders in the chairmanship race is a true grass root party activist, who has seen it all from the formative stage of the party till now.
The group made this statement in a release signed by Comrade Famous Dzisam, Comrade Jerry Ofei, Comrade Nii Sackey, Comrade Quarshie, Nii Okai and Alhaji Abu in Accra.
The statement said, the the party needs currently is someone who is not only devoted but committed to the course of the party.
The statement added that Mr Akwetey was the only candidate, who has shown readiness to uphold the tenets of the pillars of the party in ensuring execution of concrete programmes that will address the despondency in the party.
The youth said, Mr Akwetey has what it takes to create the right environment that will engender effective party organization among the people especially the grass root and bring victory in 2016.
The youth ,who identify with different ethnic groups in the region said the only way to curb corruptive practices in the party is to make sure that people with dubious business background are not allowed to bring their ‘dirty monies’ into the political fabric of the party.
The youth are from the Ablekuma South,Ablekuma Central, Shai-Osudoku, Ada, Sege, Ningo-Prampram, East Ayawaso, Ayawaso West Wuogon, Odododiodioo, Krowor, Klorley Klottey, Ledzokuku and La-Dadekotopon Constituencies.
The rest are Mahama Ladies and Zongo Caucuses in the Okaikoi North, Ga East, Ga West.
According to them, the party which has come a long way is under threat from pseudo-social democrats, whose aims are to capture power for their own business interest.
The statement maintained that leadership is not only an attempt to inject new dynamism into the political work of the party but to ensure that the rightful people who will truly represent the aspirations and hopes of their people.
In our determination to avoid these charlatans in politics, and to attain our objectives from now till the elections of the regional executives. We shall not rest on oars but strive to visit and work in every nook and cranny of the region to have Mr Akwetey, former NDC Constituency Chairman for Krowor Constituency and onetime Board member for Accra Hearts Oak Football Club and his likes are elected.
