Golden Tulip Managers Draw Salaries More Than Mahama


…Pushes Workers To Strike And Petition Government

As Ghanaians are raising eye brows over the salaries and emoluments of political appointees, various managers of quasi-government institutions, have turned these institutions into azzzZgold mine and smile to the bank to draw salaries way above that of the sitting President John Dramani Mahama.

The Herald can report that these are situation pertaining at Golden Tulip where the managers at the plush Golden Tulip Hotels in Accra and Kumasi, a four star hotel partly owned by the Government of Ghana (GoG) and the Libyans expatriates are drawing a whopping one hundred and fifty thousand Ghana Cedis month as allowance.

Even though the GoG owns forty percent of shares and the Libyans expatriates own sixty of shares, the Minister of Finance Mr Seth Terkper chairs the Board of the hotel.

A petition dated August 21, 2014 in the possession of The Herald addressed to His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama by the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra Local Union workers under the Industrial and Commercial Union (ICU) titled, “In the Matter of Humble Plea for a Complete Overhaul or Change of the Incapable Management to Salvage the Golden Tulip Hotel from fore seen jeopardy or Collapse”.

The petition was signed by Mr Thomas Mingle, the Chairman of the Association, Henrietta Boakye, Secretary, Mustapha Quansah, the First Trustee, Anita Osei Afriyie and Awal Mohammed, Vice- Chairman.

The rest are; Tsiche Ethiopie-Abba, Assistant Secretary, Alfred Dankwa, the Second Trustee and Luther Tetteh, the Youth Leader.

According to the petition, management of the hotel, has turned the hotel into a place of “Mining”, where they grab and share among themselves, whilst the workers continue to work for them to chop.

The current management, led by the Acting Manager, Francis Deyegbey , Araba Akuabaaba Quagraine, the Human Resource manager, Tahidu Bukari, Financial Controller, Bertha de Graft-Johnson, Sales and Marketing manager and Ernest Asamoah, Director of Finance and Administration, are paid eleven thousand Dollars, together with plane tickets for their husbands, wife and children.

Their children, also take thirty thousand each as bi-annual allowances from the operations of the hotel.

Mr Ernest Asamoah, together with the Acting Manager, spend a colossal amount of fifteen thousand Dollars for the renovation project of the hotel, yet still the hotel is still in a mess just after two years.

The petition stated that the managers use the hotel’s facility for their children’s wedding ceremonies and out-dooring, without paying for it.
