After emerging as the second runner-up at last year’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful contest organized by TV3 Network Limited, Ama Odame Okyere, the Eastern Regional representative of the tradition and cultural reality show, has launched her foundation to assist protect the nation’s fast depleting environment.
The programme, held over the weekend at Alisa Hotel in Accra was themed, “A clean environment a healthy people” and attended by very eminent and well meaning Ghanaians including queen mothers from the Eastern Region, Members of Parliament (MP) and environmentalists. It was also organized to raise funds to support the activities of the foundation.
The initiative named, Ama Odame Okyere Foundation, is a non – profit making organization aimed at promoting good sanitation, a healthy environment and environmentally – friendly mining activities devoid of child labour.
It seeks to focus on the youth as the main force to drive the quest for a healthy environment. The foundation with it motto, “a clean environment, a healthy people”, also seeks to create awareness of the environment through education and sensitization programmes.
Ama believes that, to ensure that her dream of getting the environment in it right state, the youth especially, must be wary of their environment and educated on the importance of it.
”It is believes that the youth must be conscious of their environment and so as a new generation they must be educated and enlightened on issues of the environment”, she said at the launch.
Even before the launch of the foundation, Ama said, it has undertaken some social interventions including, a donation of items to the Bless the Children International Home (Nkwatia SOS) and clean-up exercise in Nkwakaw last month in the Eastern Region.
Other donations include, cash and assorted goodies to an orphanage at Tutu called Trinity Home Academy. As part of her package from the competition, Ama with support from Samara Group of Companies, makers of Sasso Insecticide spray, has so far shared a total of 100, 000 customized exercise books to pupils within the region.
She also took part in Okyehene’s Amoatia Ofori Payin’s Tree Planting exercise at Kedewase and the monthly National Sanitation Day programme and served as an ambassador for the government initiative.
Some of the personalities who graced the event were, head of Mining Department at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Michael Ali Sandoh, MPs for Mpreaso and Berekum West, Seth Acheampong and Kweku Agyenim Boateng and president of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), George Ofori.
They all commended Ama for her bold initiative and pledged their support for the foundation and urged the public to follow suit.

Aside placing third at the 2014 TV3 Ghana’ Most Beautiful contest was also Ghana’s representative in the 2014 Miss Earth World.
Having issues of the environment at heart, she studied Environmental Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
She has passion for saving the Ghanaian environment and was driven by this passion to participate in the various pageants to gain the exposure and platform to carry out her vision.
She hopes that by next year 2016 the state of the environment and the sanitation status of Ghana will see a facelift.
