The level of hypocrisy in this country is becoming too much. What is this calls about unity government and let us eschew the attitude of winner-take- all, we keep hearing from our Statesmen.
Every political party desirous of winning an election, has its agenda and it is only members of that political party who understand and appreciate how best to achieve the goals set forth by the party.
Let nobody think that President John Dramani Mahama was not duly elected in the 2012 elections for which reason we keep hearing power sharing here, power sharing there. The Supreme Court on August 29 will affirm that.
In 2001, when former President John Agyekum Kufuor was forming his government, he appointed Mallam Issa, who was a member of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) to the portfolio of Sports Minister. What became of him, because he did not share in the agenda of the government, he was quickly sacrificed for a mistake that led to the country losing 45,000 US Dollars.
He was sentenced under the law of causing financial loss to the State.
In the eight years of former President Kufuor’s presidency, how many of his appointees were not reported of having embezzled monies, ten times how much Mallam Issa lost. Some appointees at the Seat of Government i.e. the Castle, used the letter head of the Presidency to dupe people; they were left off the hook because they were members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
So, before we start talking about unity and all-inclusive government, let us be guided by our recent history.
Unity and all inclusive government is good, but considering the level of polarization and how suspicious we are of each other, we could best just do with what we have now.
No political party will remain in power forever, so whether winner takes all or not, power will change hands along the line.
Who in the current administration, is not a Ghanaian that we think without the inclusion of others from other political parties, this country will not progress.
