Over His 12 Bullets Dodging Skills
A strenuous effort by former Executive Director of a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) think tank, Danquah Institute, (DI), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, to taint the just ended Talensi by-election claiming he dodged 12 bullets fired at him, has been shoved aside by an ex-Deputy Minister for Tourism, James Agyenim Boateng, as an expensive joke.
Gabby on his Twitter handle on Tuesday claimed: “I just got shot @ by drive-pass gang in pickup. 12 shots fired at us in front of NPP office, with soldiers nearby. No injuries.”
But James, who is now a Presidential Staffer at the Office of the Vice President, doubted Mr. Otchere-Darko’s claim, wondering if he wore bulletproof or he walks about with some sort of magical powers or the gun used, was a toy gun?
The onetime Deputy Minister for Information using the same Twitter platform questioned Mr. Otchere-Darko, “@GabbyDarko Were you in bulletproof or the alleged shooter shot 12 times from a toy gun? Or “you chop medicine”?
In the heat of Tuesday’s casting of votes, Mr. Otchere-Darko, in a desperate attempt to paint supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) black during the closely fought by-election in the Upper East Region, which saw the governing party’s candidate, B T Baba, emerge winner, claimed that shots were fired at him, in the full glare of personnel of the security services, who looked on unconcerned.
He had accused the NDC, as having sponsored the so-called agents who fired severally at him without injury, obviously soliciting for an undeserved sympathy from Ghanaians.
James and Gabby, interestingly, have some similarities except churning out falsehoods which differentiates them. They are first of all journalists, then they moved further to join the two main political parties, they are also both lawyers.
Another follower of Mr. Otchere-Darko’s account, Dannash Cord, also marveled at Gabby’s display of insincerity on the same platform. He twittered “@GabbyDarko I hear u claim to hav dodged 12 bullets wow from Danquah institute into the matrix”.
Dannash’s comment, came after he Gabby, twittered a day after the declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) saying “The Electoral Commission has declared the governing National Democratic Congress the winner of fierce…..”
Gabby, who happens to be a cousin of the NPP’s 2016 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, is yet to respond to either James or Dannash, but from all indications, especially from the Police in Talensi, it has now emerged that Gabby’s claim were lies, among which was the claim that, he Gabby had visited Freddie Blay in a hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained from an attack on him.
Meanwhile, observers are asking, why Gabby is still in the political landscape after promising in 2012 that, he was going to resign after that year’s general elections to focus on other personnel issues. They asked Gabby to honour his words by resigning, so that he would not get shot at, while chasing his cousin, Nana Addo’s dream of becoming president.
