Some underprivileged individuals, particularly widows who worship at the McCarthy Hill branch of the Assemblies of God, (Faith Chapel) in Accra, have received surprised donations from the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama for the Christmas.
The items which include, bags of rice, cooking oil and cartons of canned fish among other items, have been distributed to the widows and the needy last Thursday 25, December, on Christmas day at a short ceremony after church service.
The donation, included some items from a member of the church, Mr. Kwame Quinoo, owner of Anadwo Mosquito Coils and K-Lucky Baby Diapers, also emulated the gesture of the First Lady.
Rev. Dr. Victoria Neequaye, one of the widows, on behalf of her colleagues, extended their appreciations to the First Lady and Mr. Quinoo, thanking them for the gifts and for remembering them in this Christmas season.
The presentations, were done by the senior pastor of the Faith Chapel, A/G, Rev Ben-NewLife Zotoo who has now been elevated as the District Pastor-elect for Weija District, ACP Yousa T. Bonga, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Commander, Pastor Enoch Dadzie and other pastors, as well as some leaders.
Rev. Zotoo, who spoke to The Herald after the event said, the church has been supporting the widows, including giving monthly allowances, as well as offering scholarships to support the needy in the church.
This he noted forms part of his congregation’s social interventions and social responsibilities, which the church has been doing not only to its members, but also the society at large.
The soft spoken District Pastor-elect, Rev. Zotoo, said it was biblical that we should care for widows and the needy; that he said was the desire of God, hence the decision by the church to hold the underprivileged at heart and support them.
Rev. Zotoo, also thanked the benevolent donors, mostly the First Lady for her love and continuous support for Faith Chapel, A/G, anytime there was an event and invitation is extended to her.
He said, the church was most grateful and prayed for the First Family, as well as all those who have contributed their quota to the church throughout the year.
