A 20-year-old man who having been posing as a staff of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has been arrested and is currently in Police custody, assisting with investigation.
Prince Aryeko, has posed as an FDA staff, extorting money from some clients of the Authority, a statement released yesterday and signed by Hudu Mogtari, Chief Executive of FDA, said.
The FDA, with the assistance of the Police CID Narcotic Unit, effected the arrest on Monday.
Prince, had contacted a sachet water manufacturer, threatening that his sachet water (brand name withheld) has been found to be contaminated by the FDA and should, therefore, bring some money, otherwise his facility would be closed down and sanctions slapped on him.
The manufacturer, reported the issue to the FDA, who consequently informed the Police CID Narcotic Unit, who assisted in the arrest of Prince at the Accra Mall.
The FDA, advised the public, especially its clients that in no circumstance should they pay any money to any FDA staff or persons who claim to be staff of the Authority and should not hesitate to notify the FDA on such matters.
It further advised its clients that “all payments should be made at the offices of the FDA and receipts obtained”.
