DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu Told Infantile Lies

What differentiates an adult from a child is the capacity of the adult to tell a lie that is closer to the truth.

Indeed, some lies are necessary, if it goes a long way to save human life or society.

But what DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu, said on Monday to justify the action of the hoodlums he led to cause mayhem during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election when he appeared before the Justice Short Commission of Inquiry, can best be described as pathetic and comical.

The Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah and the Minister of State at the National Security, Bryan Acheampong, when they appeared before the Commission, all said that, the only person who had all the answers was the Commander of the SWAT team, who we now know is DSP Azugu.

DSP Azugu, did not only succeed in bringing the name of the Police service into disrepute, but also succeeded in exposing his incompetence and inefficiency.

His composure, demeanor, and command of the English language bring to question, the criteria for enlisting into the Ghana Police Service, as well as the mode of promotion.

We are of the considered opinion that, DSP Azugu, does not deserve his uniform; he is an officer of nuisance value and must be shown the exit.

How can an adult, with the benefit of his faculties, claim that, his men wore the mask in broad day light to ward off mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes have become so blood thirsty and brave these days to the extent that they conveniently ignore all the fleshy parts of the body and target the face.

Are we saying the likes of DSP Azugu, are the best we can parade or engage to safeguard our security?

National Security, all over the world is an intelligence gathering agency, by their mandate only the best are recruited into it.

DSP Azugu, does not qualify by any stretch of the imagination to be recruited into National Security, let alone head the SWAT team.

If he cannot explain away operation that he led, then he has no business commanding a unit.

We are at The Herald, are not least surprised, because it is obvious from the Commission’s work that, neither the National Security Minister nor the Minister of State at the National Security, are all cut for the job.

The one person this newspaper is highly disappointed in, is the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This is a man, many thought was going to be disliked or hated for how easily, he was going to hire and fire his appointees, when issues come up around them.

People said he was arrogant with his demeanor, but this newspaper saw a strict and very assertive individual.

Leaders in this part of the world, do not take responsibility for their actions and voluntarily resign, so there is the need for a strong leader, who demonstrate high level of control over his appointees.
