With 100 Motorbikes –Says Ken Agyapong
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has confirmed “The Herald’s” investigation into the arrest of the owner of one of Accra’s plushest hotels, Le Baron, at the Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom (UK).
The loud-mouth politician, admitted that the embattled business man, David Kojo Anim, who is languishing in the UK cells for trafficking drugs and engaging in money laundering, is his friend as well as a financier of the NPP, adding he cannot deny him just because he has been arrested.
He, however, denied that Mr. Anim, contributed a sum of US$2 million to the NPP’s 2012 campaign, but rather donated a total of 100 motorbikes, which were embossed with the name “patriot”.
“I will not deny that he is my friend, why will I deny??? If he is my friend, where God has placed me, I will be a fool to do drugs”.
“I say the day you will hear that I have been arrested for drugs; Ghanaians should jubilate, because I must be a daft to do that, with where God
has placed me as at now”.
“But that is the business the person has chosen to do. Me, Kennedy Agyapong, am I the person to go and stop him?? You understand, I can’t stop him”.
“But I will never deny that I go there, I go there. Any time I want to rest before I go home to beat the traffic, I go there they have a nice pizza, I enjoy it.”
Mr. Agyapong, revealed to the host of the programme, “Captain Smart” that he warned his party folks at the time they were collecting the ‘gift’ that it could come back to haunt them in the near future.
He also denied ex-President John Kufuor and the party’s 2012 presidential flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo had a relationship with Mr Anim.
“You see my party and my friend, it’s difficult but I saw a publication that, he gave 2 million dollars, if the banks will speak the truth, they will tell you what is happening to that hotel for him to give NPP 2million dollars is not true, it is not true”.
“He contributed yes, he contributed 100 motor bikes. The patriot, the patriot I talked about and people were fighting me yes, that is true. But for him to give NPP 2million dollars, where is he going to get it from? China patriot motorbikes how much is it”, he said?
The legislator, disclosed this on Adom FM’s “Dwaso Nsem”programme on Wednesday, after his long trip in the USA, where he often goes to cool-off after almost every parliamentary recess.
He will, however, not want to go further into what he knows about his jail-bound friend, especially with the party; NPP, as he noticed; it could land them in trouble.
The MP, intimated that periodically, he went to Mr. Anim, who has been described by the London Metropolitan Police as the leader of a global drug cartel, hotel for relaxation and knows several other people, who go there just as he does.
Regrettably, he said he could not advised his friend not to do illegal business, because he is an adult and has chosen to engage in that business so knew what he was doing.
“You see now they have added all of us? You let me stop here, because he is my friend. Now they have seen that Kennedy Agyapong speaks the truth. You see now Nana Addo has no idea who he was, but he has been dragged in the case. I criticized them in 2012 that this thing you are
going to do, if you go ahead, you will disgrace Nana Addo”.
“I told them that, no, don’t take anything there. Anyway am going too far let me stop here”.
Readers will recall that after the news broke, the office of Nana Akufo-Addo, almost immediately denied media reports that Mr. Anim, who was busted at the Heathrow Airport on April 26, 2014, supported the party’s 2012 campaign.
Press Secretary to Nana Addo, Eugene Arhin, subsequently described as “lies and deliberate fabrications designed in a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of Nana Akufo-Addo,” adding that “Mr. David Anim is not a friend of Nana Akufo-Addo and thus, did not contribute to the party’s 2012 campaign.”
“I spoke to the 2012 campaign manager of the NPP (Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko) and he stated emphatically that not even a single motorbike was received by the campaign team from Le Baron,” Eugene Arhin said in an earlier interview with Alhassan Suhuyini.
