The Ejura–Sekyedomae Municipal Assembly, has been preparing the grounds for a smooth take-over of the defunct Ejura Farms Limited.
The Assembly, is in talks with some stakeholders, including the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ejura Traditional Council to realize this vision within the shortest time.
The Ejura Farms Limited, established by the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, used to produce maize and other cereals to feed the country.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa Braimah, who disclosed this to the paper in an interview, hinted that by February 15, the take over will be completed.
He indicated that the documentation processes to ensure the smooth take-over of the farms by the assembly, has reached an advanced stage.
The MCE, explained that the assembly in partnership with a certain international organization, was working assiduously for this move to bear the expected fruit.
He added that the purpose to inject life into the malfunctioning state farms, was to create job opportunities for the youth in the area, as they would be introduced to agro –based business.
Alhaji Bawa Braimah, further revealed that the farms, will produce yellow maize to support the government’s broiler project.
He mentioned that a lot of plans, have been put in place to improve upon the living standard of the indigents.
He said, upgrading some selected feeder roads, which are in deplorable state, to enhance easy carting of farm produce to the municipality and other urban centers, would be tackled seriously.
The MCE, named some of the roads to be given face lift as, Sekyedomase-Apaso, Ejura-Kantakari, Babaso-Attakora –Nos I and ll, SamarikoraApiadwa and Skyedomase –Drobon.
The Assembly, through the intervention of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, he said would soon commence an upgrading project at the Ejura market.
