Years After Impersonating Anas Armeyaw Anas To Defraud Companies
The Herald’s due diligence on President Nana Akufo-Addo’s 998 Presidential Staffers, has revealed the Presidency as lacking caution and prudence in the appointment and administration of the country.
The paper has unearthed a criminal suspect in the President’s list submitted to Parliament on April 20, this year.
The suspect walks in and out of the Presidency on daily basis, and gets paid at the end of the month with the taxpayers’ money.
Joseph Osei, was arrested by the personnel of the Adabraka Police for allegedly defrauding two companies of GHC12, 200, under the guise of being a colleague of ace investigative journalist, Anas Armeyaw Anas.
He had faked documents of Anas Armeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye to further his criminal activities.
The Herald’s findings on Joseph, reveal that no background checks, personality profiling or security clearance, were done on the appointees, ahead of their selection to work in the Office Of The President.
Following his arrest, Joseph, changed his name from Joseph Osei to Joseph Osei Oppong Brenya; the name he presently responds to inside the Presidency.
He had also gone by the name Joseph Appiah on some occasions.
He numbers 189 on President Akufo-Addo’s list of 998 staffers identified as ICT/Media Relations Officer, same category as Kweku Sekyi Addo, Michael Kofi Twum Boafo.
The Herald, learnt Joseph, is currently part of the ICT Department of the Jubilee House with no clearly define role, and often clashes with superior officers.
Joseph, was arrested in January 2013. His arrest was widely reported by several media outlet, including Peace FM and Citi FM.
The Herald’s information is that, ahead of his arrest, he had been involved in some criminal activities using the name of Anas and his Tiger Eye company.
This was brought to the attention of Anas, to which he cautioned the young man, but the warning did not deter him from his criminal activities, until he was busted by the Adabraka Police.
Joseph, this paper further learnt, also used to work with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Bosiako alias Chairman Wontumi.
He allegedly faked documents to defraud the two unnamed companies in Tema and Accra, after convincing them they were being investigated by Anas’s team.
|He had also worked with Bishop Obinim as his Media Aide, and worked as reporter for Ultimate 106 FM in Kumasi-part of the EIB Network, which includes radio stations such as Starr FM, Live FM and Kasapa FM owned by Dr. Kwabena Duffour.|
Speaking to Citi News at the time of his arrest, the then Adabraka Police Station Crime Officer, DSP Ebenezer Nketia, said Joseph “…goes to companies and tells them that Anas is investigating them.
“Fortunately for him, he knows one of Anas’s workers so he managed to take some documents from their laptops and fixed names of companies where Anas is supposedly investigating and he presents the documents as if you are being investigated.
Investigations revealed the assailant, has been in operation for the past four months and managed to collect GH¢ 12, 000 from a first company and GH¢ 200 from the second.
Peace FM reported at the time that, the Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, got wind of Joseph’s nefarious activity and subsequently cautioned him against any further action.
DSP Ebenezer Nketia, revealed Joseph Osei, has never worked with Anas, but rather he had a problem and Anas helped him.
He was even warned to stop what he was doing, because Anas, got to know about the first company he defrauded and cautioned him.
It is not clear, why the he was not put before court and prosecuted by the Adabraka Police.
The Herald’s information is that, Chairman Wontumi, is aware of Joseph’s presence in the Office of the President, but has kept mute.
