..For Time Wasting
Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the National Democratic Congress’ disputed Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, suffered another setback yesterday in her attempt to get the court to dismiss a suit challenging her eligibility to contest in the November parliamentary elections.
The court, also awarded a cost of 2,500 cedis against her.
Justice Kwaku Ackaah-Boafo in his ruling yesterday, dismissed the application, saying it lacked merit and was a waste of the court’s time.
This is the second time a similar application, has been dismissed by the same court.
The application filed by Zanetor’s lawyers, led by Edudzi Tamekloe, had prayed the court to throw out the suit filed by incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey.
The Accra High Court, is expected to issue directives for the next line of action on April 4.
This would also mean that, Zanetor’s lawyers, would have to open her defense for the substantive case to start.
Mr. Ashietey and Nii John Coleman, who both contested Zanetor, asked the court to, prevent Dr. Rawlings from holding herself out as Parliamentary Candidate-elect, because according to them, she’s not a registered voter.
The Electoral Commission (EC), has since confirmed that Dr. Zanetor Rawlings was indeed not a registered voter. But lawyers for Dr. Zanetor, argued that the entire action brought before the court was premature and prayed the court to dismiss the suit.
