Chairman 1, Chairman Baako Pe, Chairman Deka, Chairman Bruce Lee, and Chairman Jet Li, yes Chairman Wontumi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Ashanti Region, a fine gentlemen by all standards, who made his money destroying our forest reserve and farm lands, he became rich by engaging in illegality, he has a qualification in illegal small scale mining, known locally as “Galamsey”.
It is Plato who said that Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.
Just when I thought my prayers have been answered, because I am going to see the back of Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), when the NPP assemblies in Tamale, the Northern regional capital, in a couple of days to elect new National Executives to lead the party, another disaster of a Regional Chairman is in the making, who is perfectly set to fit Sir John’s shoes.
Chairman Wontumi, is trying desperately to outdo and out class Sir John in loose talk and from all indication in respect of his recent utterances, he is going to surpass the ‘Sir of Junks’ in all that defeats the purpose and essence of democracy, reserved for sane and matured minds.
Last week, the news of threat to his life went viral, on the front pages of newspapers, as well as on various radio stations, he claims he has been receiving threatening phone calls from a National Security operative. My surprise is that which National Security operative could be that naïve to call and threaten him, and introduce himself as such, we need to raise the level of our political discourse a bit higher.
This is the same man who claimed that the anti-galamsey task force instituted by the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, had burn his tractors. The story turned out to be a palpable lie.
But as a mischief maker, he can sit in his room and concoct stories without any basis whatsoever. How some people want to make themselves relevant, is something that never ceases to amaze me. If you want popularity and relevance, must you make a fool of yourself just to achieve that?
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako also known as “Chairman Wontumi” has vowed to reproduce in the Ashanti Region, a regime-changing uprising in Tunisia popularly known as “Arab Spring”.
With all apologies, perhaps he might want to start with the Eminent King of the Ashanti Region, Otumfuor Osei Tutu, because he had been on the throne more than the constitutionally mandated term for democratically elected leaders.
A bit of education will help to put things in perspective. The term “Arab Spring” was popularized by the Western media in early 2011, when the successful uprising in Tunisia against former leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali emboldened similar anti-government protests in most Arab countries.
A young man in Tunisia, set himself ablaze to register his protest to the economic hardship in that country. Is Chairman Wontumi prepared to do the same thing as the young man did? If the answer is no, then he should not be talking about things he does not understand. If the answer is yes, I will like to find out from him, if he thinks this country is anywhere near where Tunisia was in the early 2011, when the young man sacrificed himself for his people?
Besides, does he think the purpose for which the young man sacrificed himself has been achieved?
Chairman Wontumi, also recently made the news for another wrong reason. According to him, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the twice defeated Presidential candidate of the NPP, should be allowed to go unopposed. It is not only against the letter and spirit of the NPP’s Constitution, it defies logic and common sense. Competition is healthy in every contest, regardless of the strength of the competiting parties, I can agree with him that somebody like Dr. Konadu Apraku, who also want the flagbearership slot is just wasting his time and resources, but they are equally good and capable persons to give Nana Addo a run for his money.
As an executive of the party, you don’t show your bias, but like Sir John, who has also said that Nana Addo will lead the party even if he is in a wheelchair.
The young man started making unguarded statements upon his return from the United Kingdom (UK), when he went to meet Nana Addo. What at all is with Nana Addo that anybody who gets closer or associates with becomes unreasonable?
When he was announcing his intention to contest for the flagbearership slot of NPP anytime the party opens nomination. Nana Addo said that on hindsight he recreated certain statements he made. He thought he could have putting them in a better way, but words once spoke cannot be taken back. That was a tacit admission of his guilt in the famous “All-die-be-die” statement.
One will think that his supporters will also follow suit, but as it is said that wash a pig, cloth a pig, it will remain a pig. Try as they do to hide their true colours, it will always surface.
Chairman Wontumi must be ashamed of himself, why do they (NPP) see power as a means to whatever end. They don’t mind sacrificing all of us, provided they are guaranteed power, power at all cost.
I think the Delegates of the NPP, have been doing a great disservice to the people of this country, their choice of Executives leaves much to be desired. From Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to Sir John to Otiko Djaba to Anthony Karbo, really, is this the best we can get from amongst them. The expansion of the Electoral College only sought to worsen the matter.
It is not always that the majority get it right.
By the way did Chairman Wontumi speak English or twi, I am tempted to believe that the young man has a problem with the Queens language. He is also another educated illiterate like Sir John.
NPP politicians Don’t Learn or It Is Nana Addo’s Curse.
