The Central Regional representative for this year’s, Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB), arguably one of the most patronized reality television programmes, has for the second time been crowned winner, nine years after the region won the first edition.
First of its kind on television in Ghana, Ama in 2007 won the first edition of the show beating competition from the nine other regions. Known in real life as Vera Oheneba Safoah, the 22 year-old member of the Kristo Asafo Church became the 9th winner of TV3’s flagship show, Ghana’s Most Beautiful.
It is the first time one region is winning the contest for the second time after the two yet to win regions, Brong Ahafo and Western Regions representatives, Ama and Araba, failed to make it to the finale. She takes it from the Upper West Region’s Baci, who won the crown last year.
Esi, as she was known on stage dedicated the win to her church, her region and all her fans for their unflinching support over three past months.
For next one year, Esi’s project is to start a campaign to reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancy in her home region. She told the media she it was a dream come adding she was “prepared for the task ahead”
She beat stiff competitions from three other finalists from the Ashanti, Eastern and Volta Regions. The show which was well patronized at last Sunday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) had Volta Region’s Fafa placing fourth with Eastern Region’s Afariwaa coming third and Ashanti Region’s Maame Akosua Ayiwa Sika picking the second spot.
Esi, a native of Cape Coast, whose win did not surprised many both at home and in the auditorium, had over the past months impressed judges, studio
audience, and viewers, winning most of the awards as Best Performer of the Night, Most Eloquent, Most Discipline, among others.
The four contestants apart from cat walking acted and answered questions on false marriage, child trafficking, mother’s love, indiscipline in the Ghanaian society, learning about other ethnic groups, values of external families, United Nation’s (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
After a sterling performance on the night which sealed her being announced the best, Esi took home, GH¢ 10,000, a brand new 2015-registered four-wheeled drive, a year supply of GTP prints, souvenirs from sponsors, among other prizes including the beautiful crown.
The 1st Runner Up in season IX of Ghana’s Most Beautiful contest went to the Ashanti Region’s representative, Sika received, cash prize of Ghc8,000 to support her project, 6 month’s supply of GTP products, 6 month’s supply of Camel antiseptic, 10,000 exercise books to be distributed to schools within her region.
Afariwa on the other hand as part of her prize earned a cash of Ghc6, 000, 3 month’s supply of GTP products, 3 month’s supply of camel antiseptic products, 10,000 exercise books to be distributed to school within her area
Volta Region’s representative who came 4th won Ghc5, 000, One month supply of GTP products, 1 month supply of Camel antiseptic products, 10,000 exercise books from Sasso to be distributed to pupils within her vicinity.
