Founder and President of Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana, Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai , has advised men to handle the breast of their spouses with care as it is fragile.
She, therefore, urged women not to allow their husbands to handle their breast roughly.
Dr. Beatrice Wiafe, was speaking at a free education and breast screening exercise at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church at Ayigya in Kumasi.
The exercise, was to honor a church member, Madam Eva Buatsi, who was transferred from Kumasi to Accra.
Madam Buatsi, had survived breast cancer for 9 years.
She is the Vice-President of Peace and Love Survivors Association (PALSA).
Breast Care International (BCI), a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the vision to be a leading breast healthcare organization in Africa and the world, is providing enabling environment to control the incidence of breast cancer in women.
BCI has over the past years been conducting outreach programs for women, especially those in deprived communities in Ghana: educating, and screening the public for breast cancer a disease that has a matchless attitude to destroy the lives of women in their prime.
DR. Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospitals(PLH) in Accra and Kumasi, lamented that every 69 seconds a woman somewhere dies from breast cancer, adding that “the fight against the disease is a global one and Ghana is no exception”.
She said, breast cancer was treatable and curable if detected early, and advised the women to go to the hospital anytime they detect some signs on their breast.
Giving a pictorial presentation, the women were taught how to properly perform their own Breast Self Examination (BSE), and educated the masses on cervical and prostate cancer.
She donated three boxes of KING CARLOS Non Alcoholic drinks, and 100 pieces of breast sense kits to the women to enable them conduct their Breast Self-Examination monthly. The women were given the opportunity to ask questions, answers were given to the satisfaction of all gathered.
Madam Eva Buatsi, thanked Dr. Wiafe and her team for the special care given to her during her time of treatment.
‘Join me to thank Doctor for saving my life, nine years ago.’’ She added.
On behalf of the women she expressed her gratitude to Dr. Wiafe and her team for the breast sense kits, their efforts and support.
She entreated all participants to seek medical attention and required check up.
The medical team clinically screened all women present for breast and other related cancer diseases.
Some suspected cases were referred for further investigations and management. END.
