A 15-year-old Form One student of Abor Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS) in the Keta Municipality of the Votla Region was on Friday, June 6 2014 at 8:30am found hanging on his father compound.
The boy by name Bernard, according to reliable information available to The Herald, committed suicide after his father, a car sprayer in Abor, popularly known as Sako, had accused him of stealing his cell phone the previous day.
Father and son engaged in a heated exchange of words, during which Sako ordered Bernard to park his personal effects, and leave his house.
Sako was said to have divorced the deceased’s mother some years ago.
Surprisingly, the next day (Friday), Bernard who went to school, returned home without his bag and did the unthinkable by hanging himself on a mango tree on their compound.
Before doing so, Bernard who was said to have locked his father in his room without his knowledge, first attempted hanging himself with an electrical cable which could carry his weight.
He later removed a nylon rope on which they dry their cloth and succeeded in committing the suicide.
A plastic chair, was also found at the scene, meaning he had used it to climb the mango tree, whiles he was still in his school short.
His school bag, was later brought home by his classmates who could not control their tears after the bizarre news broke that Bernard, their
colleague, had committed suicide.
