Over Murder Case!
By Alfred K Dogbey
Lawyers for the family of a 45 year-old woman, Madam Frederica Palm, who was gruesomely shot through her private part on August 15, 2011 at James-Town in Accra, have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan, to open “a full scale investigation” into the shooting incident and prosecute the perpetrators of that heinous crime.
According to the lawyers, the James-Town police, “have failed and/or neglected to take necessary action on the matter to its logical conclusion”.
The petitioned dated May 2, 2014 and signed by Lawyer John David Merson of Merson & Co Legal Consults, was copied to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Minister of Interior, Kwesi Ahwoi and the James Town Police Station.
Madam Frederica Palm, the lawyers said, was shot in her private part “on the 15th day of August 2012, by a musketeer escort to the new Bortianor Korfe, Chief Nii Kommey Dadieku I, also known as Nii Korfe”.
The family said, the prime suspect, who has been identified only as Allortey, a musketeer escort and errand boy to the chief, Nii Korfe is still walking freely, as he has not been arrested.
The deceased, the petition noted “was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, but was pronounced dead later”. “A murder complaint was subsequently made to the James Town Police Station for an action to be taken on this matter” But “unfortunately the police, have failed and /or
neglected to take necessary action on the matter to its logical conclusion”.
The lawyers said, “…under the circumstances stated hereinbefore, we do hereby demand upon you to conduct a full scale investigation into the alleged incident of 15th August 2011 leading to the prosecution of the alleged perpetrators”, adding “we looked forward to hearing from you as soon as possible”.
Meanwhile, children of the deceased, David Nii Noi Annang and his younger sister, Henrietta Amartefio, whose eyes were filled with tears told The Herald that the State has denied them justice in the case.
The two children, who are now living without any support to continue their education, are currently depending on friends and an aunt for food and shelter.
They told The Herald that, the Chief, Nii Korfe, was even arrested by the police in connection with the incident, but was later granted bail and that ended the matter. They said “nothing has been done or heard about the case for four years now”.
According to the family, prior to the burial of the deceased, Nii Korfe with his people, visited the family to ask for forgiveness, through Nii Korfe’s right hand chief, Nii Kommetey, and promised the family to take care of the children’s education, as well as pay compensation.
However, Nii Korfe and his , have not only reneged on their promises to the children, but are also going about spreading false claims that they had built a house for the children and given them money for their upkeep.
The children, accompanied by their aunties, Madam Priscilla Tackie, Charlotte Allortey, told The Herald that immediately after the burial of the deceased, the family did not hear from Nii Korfe and his elders.
The late Madam Frederica Palm, was said to have bled profusely through her private part, due to the severe gunshot injury she sustained. Even a surgery could not save her. She was pronounced dead after leaving the theater.
