The elders of Appollonia, a peri-urban area in the Greater Accra Region, have said that the developments that took place during the installation of the self-styled Chief; Nii Nuertey Amobi II, does not conform with the traditions and the customs of the area.
“We the accredited heads and elders, would want to set the records straight that Apollonia does not have a chief and that at all material times, Nii Iddrisu Mansro, is the legitimate Regent of Appollonia, upon the death of Nii Tei Adumuah II.
The elders of the three ruling clans namely, Bediako, Kojo and Sanshie We, claim that it is never the practice that descendants of linguists to be made Chief in the history of the area.
They claim that descendants of linguists, cannot be made Chief, for that Nii Nuertey Amobi II, hails from the Josiah house under the Kojo We clan and that people from
that house are principal linguists to the Chief and cannot assume the throne.
According to the elders, the recent events in relation to the installation have shown disrespect to the Ga-Adangbe customary practice.
They contend that before the burial of the late Chief of the area could be organized, certain persons unlawfully holding themselves as king makers, installed one
Nathaniel Tettey, under the stool name Nii Nuertey Amobi II, as Chief of the area.
Speaking at a charged press conference in Accra, Nii Iddrisu Mansro, the regent of the Appollonia Stool, said that the imposters with the support of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Laryea Afortey -Abgo and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso Constituency, went ahead and got the said Nathniel Tettey, gazzetted in the National Register of Chiefs.
He said on November 13, 2014, the day of gazzetting, there was a suit pending before the Kpone Traditional Council, presided over by Nii Tetteh Otu II, where the eligibility of the said Appollonia Chief was being challenged.
He said nonetheless, the Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) succeeded in completing a Chieftaincy Declaration form for the said Chief for his onward transmission to the National House of Chiefs through the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa.
“The move by the KTC, led to the institution of an action for a judicial review where the elders of the three ruling houses; Bediako We, Kojo We and Sanshie We prayed for an order of Certiorari to quash the decision of the National House of Chiefs and a mandamus compelling the respondent, the National House of Chiefs to expunge the name of the said Chief from the National Register of Chiefs” he argued.
He accused the Regional Minister of directly being involved and supporting the imposters parading themselves as accredited king makers.
We would want the world to know that the Minister has been deeply involved in the chieftaincy dispute and sale of lands in the area.
He alleged that the Minister supports the imposters with soldiers from the Reece regiment to intimidate the entire town ship of Appollonia.
He said by the Supreme Court ruling dated April 12, 200 suit number 5/99, it was unanimously held that lands at Appolllonia can only be alienated with the consent and concurrence of the three ruling houses led by Seth Gblie Nartey.
