Kwadwo Mpiani Vindicated
The quest by the former Press Secretary to ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor to become the chief scribe of the largest opposition party is silently, but vigorously being resisted by Nana Akufo-Addo, who sees Kwabena Adjei Agyapong as an opponent, because he (Kwabena) in 2010 backed Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten for the flagbearership slot of the party.
Mr. Agyapong alias “Kalahari” will have to do more than his strength can take him before he can possibly be accepted back into the political life of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Addo who is now the “Grandmaster” in the NPP, calling the short and choosing who and who should be made a national executive, according to Kwadwo Mpiani.
With barely two weeks to the NPP National Delegates Congress in Tamale, where officers will be elected to occupy national executive positions, news filtering in indicates that the Nana Akufo-Addo and his team are making frantic efforts to ensure Mr. Agyapong, does not become General Secretary of the NPP as served in a warning last week by ex-Chief of Staff, Mr. Mpiani.
For instance on Nana Addo’s 70th birthday celebration, Charles Nii Teiko-Tagoe, the Facebook manager of Nana Addo, arrogantly questioned why Mr. Agyapong refused to greet him and went into a tirade of insults and casting innuendoes on the ex-Presidential Press Secretary, as though they were coequals.
Nana Akufo-Addo, is said to have called Kwabena Agyapong to apologize to him over the incident at his house, but Charles Nii Teiko-Tagoe himself appears unrepentant as he took to facebook and radio berating Mr. Agyapong and his Special Assistant, David Opoku Ansah.
Mr. Agyapong, had asked Charles Nii Teiko-Tagoe alias “Abor” who is mostly seen in drinking bars with Nana Addo’s Press Secretary, Herbert Krampah to hold on as he (Agyapong) was greeting someone before turning to him Charles Nii Teiko-Tagoe to greet him, having complained of being ignored by Mr. Agyapong. But Charles will not listen and burst in anger.
The defeated 2012 NPP Presidential Candidate prefers incumbent Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias Sir John, who is on record to have said that he will ensure Nana Addo contests the 2016 general elections even if he is in a wheelchair.
But Mr. Agyapong’s crime, this paper is told, stems from 2010, when he supported Mr. Kyeremanten and in the heat of that campaign, Mr. Agyapong was reported to have said that the now turned 70-year old, was too old to lead the party for the second time in 2012.
The General Secretary aspirant, Mr. Agyapong, who served as the campaign manager for Nana Addo 1998 when he contested and lost to ex-President John Kufuor, is being tagged by Nana Addo and his camp as arrogant and disrespectful who does not know how to talk to elders.
Mr. Agyapong, Nana Addo and his team believe, will not support a third term for Nana Addo, but rather Mr. Kyerematen.
The eloquent politician, who has openly confessed the naked resistance he had to endure when he wanted to join the campaign trail of Nana Addo in 2012 by some individuals around Nana Addo, especially his nephew, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
Recently, Danquah Instituted (DI) a think tank setup by Mr. Otchere-Darko to promote Nana Addo’s presidential ambition suggested that the General Secretary aspirant, was involved in a fraudulent act by planting a story in the media saying an opinion poll conducted by the institute, puts him ahead and above other aspirants such as, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, Sir John and Captain Nkrabea Effah-Datey.
In a rather dramatic circumstance, Danquah Instituted (DI), issued a statement hurriedly denying the said report and suggested Mr. Agyapong who is popularly called “Kalla” of being behind the publication to deceive delegates.
Mr. Agyapong, has on many times recounted the frustration he went through in the hands of Mr. Otchere-Darko which finally pushed him away from Nana Addo’s campaign, until Nana Addo in a face saving mission drove to his house to make amends.
Mr. Agyapong’s woes, however, deepened last Sunday at Nana Addo’s Nima residence, where after a thanksgiving service for the twice defeated presidential hopeful, party supporters, sympathizers and well wishers had gathered to congratulate him on his 70th birthday, which fell on the Saturday.
The situation confirmed claims by former Chief of Staff, Mr. Mpiani that he had heard that Nana Addo, was picking and choosing candidates to be NPP national executives, who he feels comfortable working with.
Mr. Mpiani, warmed that Nana Addo, would lose the Presidential Election should he pick and choose people, he deems to be national executives, as he would be hurting other members of the party, because they will be peeved and will not have anything to do with his campaign and in the 2016 presidential election, should he win the primary of the party.
