Airtel Ghana Sponsors ‘Atta Mills Memorial Library’

President Mahama has announced that the ‘John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Research Library’ when completed, would encourage effective research to inform major policies in the economy.

The ‘John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Research Library’ is being built by Airtel Ghana.

Speaking at a ceremony to lay the foundation for the construction of the Library as part of the activities to commemorate the first anniversary of the demise of the former President, President Mahama said, the memorial library would embody the collective heritage of Late President Mills who was an astute academician.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Airtel Ghana, Kwame Pianim also pledged the commitment of the Telecom industry to ensure the successful completion of the Atta Mills Memorial Library adding,“We are sponsoring this project because the telecom industry owes a lot to this government.”

According to President Mahama, “The ideals and values of President Mills cannot be immortalized any better than providing a platform for the pursuit of knowledge through research and scholarly collaboration.

The library will have a museum that will hold a collection of artefacts that tell the story of the life of the late President and a research centre that will provide opportunities for researchers and scholars from all over the world to come to research into issues of governance.”

The Library when completed will be affiliated to the University of Cape Coast.

The week-long commemoration ended yesterday with a church service held at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast.
