Two leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have taken on their General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, calling him names and also served notice on him not to kill the party’s twice defeated presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, by pushing him to run for the third time.
While ex-Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng suggested his General Secretary was deaf, ex-Presidential Staffer, Paul Afoko, also took him on for pushing Nana Akufo-Addo, once again into the presidential race, although he was tired and needed a deserved rest after two successive defeat.
According to Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, ever since Mr. Owusu-Afriyie rose to become a key figure in the NPP, his ways has drastically changed and he barely listens to advice.
He describes the all-knowing posture of the NPP’s General Secretary as one that clearly shows that he has inadequate knowledge about “politics”.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng’s comments emanates from plots by certain key persons in the NPP to stage a ‘Thank You Tour’ on behalf of Nana Akufo Addo.
He revealed the tour is aimed at retaining the organizers, thus Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and Mr. Owusu Afriyie at post; rather than the thank you message they want to send across.
He explains that the two key persons have no intention of fighting for Nana Addo, but are hell bent on ensuring they are retained as leaders.
In an interview with OKAY FM, the former Mfantseman West Parliamentary candidate, bluntly warned Lawyer Owusu Afriyie not to use the ‘Thank You Tour’ as a “camouflage to seek re-election”.
Knowing very well that his caution would not sit well with Sir John, he pleaded with the NPP’s General Secretary not to use abusive languages to reply him.
For those rooting for Nana Akufo Addo to lead the party in 2016, they were described as assassins by Mr. Afoko.
Mr. Afoko also launched this blistering attack on Okay FM, when he was asked to give his take on the early calls by some executives for Nana Akufo-Addo to lead them.
According to him, the 2012 presidential aspirant for the NPP should be allowed to fully enjoy his sabbatical leave without any distractions.
He explains that Nana Akufo-Addo has made it clear that he wants to stay away from politics for now and seek the face of God, before announcing his intentions in the near future.
This message in Mr. Afoko’s view, should have deterred Lawyer Owusu-Afriyie also known as Sir John, from staging a campaign for his premature return.
Mr. Afoko noted that such moves were deliberate attempts to “kill” Nana Akufo-Addo, considering how his activeness in the party has worn him out.
“It looks like they want to “kill” Nana Addo by making him do something against his will. How many of them have been able to do what Nana Addo has done? Apart from Bawumia, Nana Addo is the only person who has toured the whole country, during the general elections…It is like Nana Akufo-Addo telling them he has headache and instead of them giving him medicine to cure his illness, they are using hammer on his head,” he said.
