….Over GNA Fabricated Story Against Mahama
By Cecil Mensah
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has descended heavily on the faceless individuals, who posted a story about him, claiming he had lambasted President, John Dramani Mahama for not sacking Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah from his government over his shameful performance at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil instead of keeping.
Mr. Joseph Kobina Ade- Coker, registered his reservations about the negative story headlined, “Ade-Coker Jabs Mahama Over Afriyie-Ankrah”, which was posted on Ghanaweb and Modern ghana.com, online news portals yesterday.
He described the story attributed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) as palpable false, as he has not granted any interview to the state-owned news agency.
Mr. Ade-Coker, has meanwhile, written to the management of GNA, asking for an immediate withdrawal of the publication, because he has not spoken to the GNA.
The content of the letter said, “I also demand an unqualified apology to the President, myself and other personality mention in the said “mysterious publication”.
He continued that “I have never attacked the President anywhere; I have been out of town. I just arrived only to be greeted with such falsehoods from this faceless author”.
“I wish to state categorically that I have not spoken to GNA on any such subject and wish to call on GNA to withdraw the said publication immediately if it’s really on their news portal” he told The Herald in Accra yesterday.
He demanded an unqualified apology to the President, and other personalities mentioned in the publication.
Mr. Ade-Coker, made this comments when he spoke with The Herald after asking his lawyers to issue a rejoinder to the “fabricated” story.
According to him, he knew where this was coming from, because it was one of the calculated attempts to create disaffection for him in the
Government and in the party.
He said, his opponents can go ahead and spew such lies about him, but he would triumph come the day of NDC regional elections.
He noted that it beats his imagination, when people go this length in an attempt to destroy their fellow colleagues for the sake of internal politicking.
“My brother, I have not started campaigning and I will not be pushed to do so, because we have only started with the election of branch executives and this is not the time to campaign,” he maintained.
He indicated that he had longstanding good working relation with the GNA, but has not granted any interview to the media organization.
He rubbished the content of the publication, maintaining that no reporter from the organization had spoken with him over the said issue.
He disclosed that the Managing Director of GNA, Bernard Otabil ,has assured him that no such story was carried on GNA portal.
He disclosed that GNA is also taking steps to have actions taken against all those who write stories in the name of the organization brought to book, through the office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
