The Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, has written off the likes of President Akufo-Addo, for being too old for the next presidential and parliamentary elections.
The First Vice Chairman hopeful for the region, says the task ahead is a herculean one, which needs energetic and strong young men to face, not old men above 70 years, forgetting that the president who turned 75 last month, may probably be the one leading the NPP in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, said this to counter claims by his opponents that he was too young to vie for the position of First Vice Chairman.
Abronye is facing stiff opposition from party bigwigs in the region, who have began an intensive campaign against his candidature, claiming among others that he is too young to hold that position.
But in a rebuttal on Accra-based Okay Fm on Monday, the loud-mouthed politician, said the tag by his opponents is flawed, because there are records of people in the governing party, who continue to hold positions who at the time of vying for those positions, were far younger than him.
“The 2020 battle is not for over 70 year olds. If that is the case, if it happens that it gets tough and we need to run, can those people run faster than the youth”?, he questioned the host, Kwame Nkrumah ‘Tikesie’.
He cited the likes of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, who is seeking reelection.
He said, when Chairman came into the scene, he was only 36 years, but because he was focused, dedicated and determined, and so was able to deliver for the party, after winning the regional primaries.
Abronye DC, said he was more than 36, and also has what it takes to deliver for the party in the region.
He again refuted claim that, he may not be able to compete with his contenders, because they are well to do than him.
He answered the host “Which of those contesting against me is richer than me? I don’t want to brag about money, but if we are told to sponsor by way of buying motorbikes and offer other assistance for the constituencies, none of my competitors can support the party. I have dashed money over the period, so they know what I can do in the region.
My competitors in their campaign are going round saying they have money, but what you should know is that if someone who is unable to clothes himself tells you he will give you something to wear you should understand what he means. They should put the age and money aside and let us talk about the real issues”.
Asked if he could work with the current regional chairman Asuma Kyeremeh, who happens to be the Regional Minister, in the event that he wins the position, considering the fact that he is on record to have accused him of corruption and petitioned President Akufo-Addo to probe him?
He responded saying, he works for the NPP, not individuals. The out-going regional youth organizer, said he was prepared to work with everyone, but that does not mean if he sees that something untoward is happening, he will not say it.
